There are a ton of VST Synthesizers out there. But which ones are the ones to get for yourself? my philosophy when buying VSTs is only getting what you really need and use. Those 5 Synthesizers are the ones that I would recommend.

1.Xfer Serum

I really love this synth. It is so thought through that most experienced Designers should be fine without even having a look at the user manual once. Really one of the best Synthesizers out there.

The Serum has a Wavetable editor built right in- you can create your own wavetables in a variety of ways. Import audio directly from audio files – Serum has a variety of methods and options for analyzing audio for breaking it apart into individual waveforms. You can import single-cycle wavetables of course, as well as many at once (with in-built sorting options, or manual re-ordering). Morph between various wavetables using standard linear interpolation (crossfading) or via harmonic/spectral morphing. Draw directly on the waveform, with optional grid-size snapping and a variety of shape tools. Generate or modify waveforms using FFT (additive). Create or process waveforms using formula functions. Processing menu options allow you to do the other tasks you would want, such as apply fades, crossfades, normalize, export, and much more.

2.Massive (Native Instruments)

The synth that defined bass music, this powerhouse synthesizer is an uncompromising sonic monster and the go-to choice for bass music and electro producers.

MASSIVE is a sonic monster – the ultimate synth for basses and leads. The virtual-analog concept belies the contemporary, cutting-edge sound it generates. Clearly laid out and easy to use, MASSIVE gives you earth-shuddering sounds from the very first note.
MASSIVE gives your tracks a solid foundation with the creamiest, punchiest basses. Razor-sharp leads cut through the mix even with grit and dirt piled high. And an overwhelming array of wavetable oscillators, modulation options, and filters and effects offer a sonic spectrum as broad as it is inspiring.

3.Operator (Ableton)

Really, most people that have Ableton are also using this Synthesizer. It is not one of those tools bundled with your DAW that you never touch. Operator delivers a wide range of sonic possibilities through an extensive array of synthesis tools. Powerful analog-style subtractive synthesis and detailed FM effects are all possible due to Operator’s hybrid approach to synthesis.

4.Albino 3 (Rob Papen)

Now, this is a real Dinosaur. Many Psytrance Producers like for example Ajja used this synth. I personally love it for its relative simplicity. Especially for students and on Workshops it is still my go-to Synth. It`s just easy to use and get`s the job done. No fancy stuff like Wavetable OSCs or Drag and Drop Modulations.

In 2002 Rob Papen approached Peter Linsener of LinPlug with the idea of a sound-designers dream synth.
A few months later ALBINO was born! This very unique synth stole the hearts of many musicians due to its high-quality sound, usability and inspirational presets.

Albino3 has loads of amazing new creative features added like the two new filters “Scream” and “Comb”; four FX units with new FX like LoFi and WahWah; a Compressor and an improved Reverb.
But the biggest new feature is that you can layer up to four instances of Albino in one single preset!

Albino 3 has 2200 ‘Rob Papen’ presets in various styles of music.

5.Sylenth1 (Lennar Digital)

Sylenth1 is a virtual analog VSTi synthesizer that takes the definitions of quality and performance to a higher level. Until now only very few software synthesizers have been able to stand up to the sound quality standards of hardware synths. Sylenth1 is one that does.

lennar digital vstSylenth1 is not just another synth. It was built from a producer’s point of view. It was built to produce superior quality sound and music. It was built to perform. A lot of research has been invested in order to achieve unheard warmth and clarity. The graphical interface ensures the highest level of usability so you can fully unleash your creativity
